Joshua Dobbs was born to Stephanie and Robert Dobbs and began playing competitive football when he was five years old.
He attended Wesleyan School and later Alpharetta High School and played with the Alpharetta Raiders football team. Though he originally committed to Arizona State University to play college football, in February 2013, he changed his commitment to the University of Tennessee.
He attended the university where he majored in Aerospace Engineering. He was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa at Tennessee in his senior year in 2016.
He was awarded the 2017 Torchbearer Award by the university for his accomplishments in the community and academics. He was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll and graduated with a 4.0 GPA.
