New Oreo Flavor! Everything We Know About Mint Chip Oreos
The dessert-flavored Oreos do not stop coming, y’all. Just this year, the flavor scientists at Oreo have already brought us cookies based on dirt cake, tiramisu, churros, and (unfortunately) sour candy. Unlike those releases, this new Oreo flavor is coming alongside an entire slate of associated Oreo products that have already been seen on shelves. Like the trumpets that signal the rapture, you could see this Earth-shattering news coming if you just knew the signs.
So, what’s the new Oreo flavor?
The newest Oreo flavor hitting shelves in a few short weeks is, drumroll please, Mint Chip! If that concept sounds familiar, it might be because the phrase “Mint Oreo” is already appearing on six new products releasing this summer. Alongside these new Mint Chip Oreo cookies, you’ll want to head to the ice cream aisle for all sorts of frozen minty Oreo goodies: pints, tubs, bars, and sandwiches (some of which you’ll find in our recently updated best cookies and cream ice cream ranking). As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also be able to find Mint Chip Oreo O’s in the cereal aisle! I’m truly surprised they didn’t drop a couple Mint Chip Oreo baking mixes as part of this avalanche.
An ice cream-flavored Oreo? That’s positively unremarkable!
You’re telling me. After more than a few weird releases this year, Mint Chip is as normal as they come. (It doesn’t take the trophy for Most Boring 2024 Release, though; that honor will go to the half-vanilla Reese’s Cups.) Mint Chip is at least the seventh ice cream-flavored Oreo flavor I can find in my research; past releases include Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake, Neapolitan, and… Baskin-Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip? Hey, that sounds mighty familiar…
Is this just a rerelease? Are we being bamboozled by this cookie’s marketing department!?
Not this time! That earlier Mint Chocolate Chip Oreo release contained two layers of creme—chocolate and mint—along with chocolate chips. The 2024 Oreo Mint Chip contains just a single layer of “mint chip flavored” creme with chocolate chips. This new version also features a waffle cone pattern embossed onto the outside of each chocolate wafer. That’s certainly a nice touch to set this apart from previous mint chocolate chip Oreo releases, but I wish there was some sort of waffle cone flavoring included. It wouldn’t even be the first waffle-flavored Oreo!
When can I get my hands on these new Oreos?
Mint Chip Oreos are expected to hit the shelves of your local grocers and supermarkets on Monday, July 8th. As soon as we can get our hands on this new flavor, you’ll know what we think of them. I’ll even throw a few in the freezer to see if that adds anything to the experience.
