Candy Cane CD Wreath - Mom On Timeout

Candy Cane Christmas Wreath | MomOnTimeout.com | #craft #christmas

Oh my goodness! Christmas is coming up sooo quickly!!!

I really wanted to make a wreath this year and then time just got away from me. That happens to me a lot. Anyways, you may have noticed an abundance of candy cane projects around here lately and you’re about to get another one – yay! I was playing around with the candy canes waiting for the hot glue to dry on our Candy Cane Reindeer and came up with a really cool looking wreath. I just didn’t have a clue as how to put it together. I hate having to go out and buy specialty craft supplies so I started wandering around our house looking for something I could use….I came up quite a few possibilities but ended up deciding on a CD – yep a CD. Well it may have been a DVD. It was on a spindle on our desk and there seemed to be a lot of them so I hope my husband doesn’t miss it 😉  I love how it turned out and I’m excited to share it with you!

What you’ll need:

  • CD/DVD
  • spray paint
  • glitter
  • polyurethane spray {optional}
  • ribbon
  • ornament
  • candy canes

I started by spray painting the CD red. I did the first coat and then after spraying the second coat I sprinkled on some red glitter. Once that was dry, I sprayed on a coat of polyurethane so the glitter wouldn’t get everywhere.

Once the CD was completely dry, I flipped it over and laid out the candy canes. Once I had it all figured out how they were going to be spaced I brought out the big guns. And by big guns, I mean my mini hot glue gun 😉  One by one, I glued on all of the candy canes.

Flip it over and this is what you have. I think it actually looks pretty awesome like this 🙂

Candy Cane Wreath Step 3

The CD serves not only as the wreath form but also as a support for the ribbon hanger. Slip a ribbon through the center of the CD and tie.

Candy Cane Wreath Step 4

I wanted the front to have a slightly more finished look so I glued on this pretty ornament I found at Target for $1. I loved the added dimension that it gives to the wreath.

Candy Cane Wreath Step 6

I love how it looks!

Candy Cane Wreath Complete

I think this wreath is super cool because with all the different colored candy canes available you could really change up the look!
