Best Powdered Nut Butter (There Are Only Two!)

The best powdered nut butter should have minimal ingredients and a rich, nutty flavor.

Sadly, something was lost in translation when ambitious food scientists decided to turn nut butter into powdered nut butter. For the most part, every powdered nut butter I tasted was horrendously bad. Theoretically, when reconstituted, these should taste relatively similar to their non-powdered nut butter counterparts. This was not the case at all.

And yes, I understand that these lack the oil that comes in a jar of nut butter. Some of these powdered nut butters don’t have sugar or salt. But some do and still taste bad! I’ve had peanut butter made from unsalted peanuts with zero sugar added and it isn’t remotely similar to anything I tasted during this taste test.

I know that you might be shouting at your screen, “But Jordan, you’re supposed to mix these into things! Not eat them on their own!” They might be more tolerable that way, but they all do include instructions on the label about how to turn them into nut butter with the addition of water. If they don’t want you to do that, it shouldn’t be on the label!

For our purposes, we tasted them as “normal” as possible to get the real flavor of the product. Upsettingly, that flavor was typically chemicals. The very short list below consists of the two best powdered nut butters that I would consider buying if I had to buy nut butter.

Nuts ‘N More Cinnamon Toast Peanut Butter PowderAmazon

This is the only powdered nut butter we tried that I would ever willingly buy for pleasure. The addition of the cinnamon toast flavor saves the day. It tastes exactly like cinnamon toast with peanut butter on it. This would be wonderful blended into a smoothie and swirled into yogurt. What really sets Nuts ‘N More apart from the rest is that it tastes good with just a little water mixed into it. It was the only powdered nut butter that I would eat reconstituted and made into actual nut butter. I would happily dip apple slices or pretzel rods into this any day. Thank you for holding up the entire powdered nut butter industry, Nuts ‘N More.

Augason Farms Peanut Butter PowderWalmart

This is what we in the industry call an “absolutely bonkers” amount of powdered peanut butter. Two pounds?! It makes sense, though, because this company specializes in powdered staples. In addition to peanut butter, they also powder things like butter, eggs, and corn. This company essentially makes products for people who live in the middle of nowhere, facing harsh weather conditions, and can’t go to the grocery store often or doomsday preppers. This powdered nut butter consists of just three ingredients: peanuts, sugar, and salt. Unlike the other powdered nut butters we tried, this actually tasted like those three ingredients. It has a shelf life of up to five years, which is good because it’ll probably take you five years to use up this container. It’s approximately 65 servings! If I needed to buy plain powdered nut butter, this would be the best nut butter for the job and the only one I would buy.
