The 5 Best Cheese Ravioli Brands
Cheese ravioli from the freezer section is my ultimate depression food. It’s so easy to make and tastes incredibly comforting. No matter how sad I am and how much I’m not in the mood to cook or eat, I will always be in the mood for cheese ravioli. Topped with some melty butter and a sprinkling of Cavender’s? It’s such a feel-good meal that it could replace my daily dose of Wellbutrin.
I (happily) tried all the cheese ravioli I could find at the grocery store to see which I should have on hand on my darkest days. To be clear, you don’t have to have depression to enjoy frozen cheese ravioli. It will pair great with whatever type of sadness you’re feeling, from a blah day to full-blown existential despair. And it even pairs well with a good mood, too!

Best of the Best
Celentano Cheese RavioliInstacartI grew up eating this ravioli from the Italian grocery store near my house and I love it. I wasn’t sure if it would hold up, but turns out I had literally zero reasons to worry. Celentano’s cheese ravioli is absolutely sensational. The filling is herby and creamy. The dough is the perfect thickness. The ravioli are huge. You could eat these totally plain and be satisfied. That being said, they’d also be wonderful with marinara, pesto, butter, or vodka sauce. These ravioli can do no wrong.

Best Gluten Free
Cappello’s Almond Flour Pasta Five Cheese RavioliInstacartCappello’s Almost Flour Pasta Five Cheese Ravioli was the surprise hit of the day. We couldn’t believe how incredibly delicious these are. They’re so cheesy! They practically burst when you bite into them, and the cheese filling is super flavorful with notes of freshly cracked black pepper and garlic. The pasta is the perfect texture; you’d never know it’s gluten-free. This ravioli is one of the best on the market, gluten-free or not, and my gluten-loving self will be purchasing them again.

Best Budget
Great Value Cheese RavioliWalmartYou can always count on Great Value to make a tasty version of any food. The cheese ravioli from their freezer section are no exception. First of all, you get a lot of ravioli for a small amount of money and, like any person with common sense, I love a good deal. Second, these ravioli taste great! They’re cheesy and creamy. The pasta dough is on the thicker side, which I personally don’t mind. You can tell that this ravioli isn’t as fancy as some of the others we tried, but it is equally delicious.

Most Unique
Rana Mozzarella Cheese RavioliTargetRana’s Mozzarella Cheese Ravioli had a different flavor than any of the other ravioli we tried. The mozzarella brings a little extra oomph to the cheese filling. It’s super savory and very cheese-forward, which makes sense since the filling is mozzarella and ricotta with very little seasoning. The combination of mild seasoning and maximum cheese would make this ravioli great with bold and hearty bolognese. Is ravioli typically served with bolognese? No. And I know that. But I think it should be and I stand by that.

Best Trader Joe’s
Trader Joe’s Cacio e Pepe RavioliTraderjoes.comTrader Joe’s makes a lot of very, very bad ravioli. One of the few enjoyable ravioli from TJ’s extensive collection of clever but underwhelming ravioli is their Cacio e Pepe Ravioli. It’s actually peppery, which I loved. The inside could have a little more filling and the pasta could be a little more tender, but all in all, it’s certainly a good option if you’re looking for an interesting filled-pasta option at Trader Joe’s.
